Top 7 Combat Tips

1. Weapon-switch canceling is king

Cancel weapon reload animations by quick-switching. Fire Sawed-Off → switch to Tommy Gun → switch back. You skip the pump animation entirely. This is the #1 technique for Hard-Boiled+.

2. Headshots trigger slapstick stuns

Headshots cause enemies to enter a cartoon "dizzy" state for 2 seconds. During this window, ANY follow-up hit deals 3x damage. Chain headshot → Sawed-Off blast for massive burst damage.

3. Use the environment

Anvils, pianos, safes, and other cartoon props can be shot to drop on enemies. These instant-kill on Gumshoe and below, and deal 80% HP on Hard-Boiled. Look up for suspended objects.

4. Pie Thrower is your crowd control tool

Pie blinds enemies for 3 seconds AND slows them. Throw pie at a group → switch to Cheese Launcher for a devastating AOE combo. Bosses are only stunned for 1 second but it interrupts their attacks.

5. Cartoon Chaos: memorize spawn patterns

On Cartoon Chaos difficulty, enemy spawns are fixed. Deaths teach you the pattern. The game is designed for trial-and-error learning on this difficulty — each room is a puzzle.

6. Jazz meter builds with style kills

The jazz meter fills faster with environmental kills, multi-kills, and headshots. A full jazz meter gives 10 seconds of bullet-time. Save it for tough encounters — don't waste it on easy rooms.

7. Don't skip the Magnifying Lens on bosses

While it seems weak, the Magnifying Lens reveals boss weak points (they glow). Hitting glowing weak points deals 5x damage with ANY weapon. Use the Lens to scout, then switch to heavy DPS.
